BHANDARA: In a spine-chilling incident, a minor girl was raped and then burnt alive by a youth in an agriculture field at village Dhusala on Saturday afternoon. The accused, Ankush Gajbhiye (26), a resident of Dr Ambedkar ward of the village, was arrested by the police.
Ankush took 12-year-old Sweety Gajbhiye, a standard VI student residing opposite the house of Ankush, to an agriculture field near the canal on a bicycle on the pretext of eating 'hurda'. As they reached the field, Ankush took her to a heap of haystack and raped her. As she became unconscious, Ankush set the haystack heap on fire. When Sweety did not return home till evening, her parents started enquiries. One of the villagers said that they had seen Sweety sitting on the bicycle of Ankush and going towards the canal. Villagers then traced Ankush in the village and thrashed him. Then he told them that he had taken her to an agriculture field. When villagers went there, they were shocked to see the burnt bones of the girl in the stack.
The matter was reported to Andhalgaon police station police who arrested Ankush. He confessed to the crime and narrated the ghastly incident.
